"I've cast so many veterans and women who have survived domestic violence in my film projects. The military men and women expressed interest in the drones that we used during the filming process. Many of these veterans shared an interest in obtaining their Part 107 Commercial Drone License.
My goal is to help our heroes train, prepare and test for their Part 107 License and guide them to find drone related jobs in the aviation and film industries."

I wrote The Shades, a short film about women who survived sexual assaults and violence. I brought veterans on as part of the production's cast and crew.
In the film, women survivors break their silence and speak out on camera for the very first time. Military men and women stood alongside the women demonstrating a strong support.
Advocates and counselors were also on set to help during this extremely emotional and cathartic experience.

Job opportunities in a fast growing industry.
The Multi-Billion dollar business of drones is estimated to grow up to 90 billion by 2025.
'Heroic Episodes' is a series is based on true stories of veterans. Lisa Regina's research includes nine years of interviews with military men and women of all branches of service and all wars. Our heroes stories include messages of bravery, hope and humanitarian acts.
Lisa feels these stories are vast and often untold. Her mission is to adapt these stories to a series.
This will allow Lisa to run the Veterans Film Apprenticeship (VFA) and the (VDTP) Veterans Drone Training Program in conjunction with the series and provide our heroes with camaraderie, jobs and most importantly, healing.
As the saying goes, “The sky’s the limit,” and such a saying could easily serve as the VDTP’s motto. The program effectively positions veterans to rejoin the workforce as commercial drone pilots in the film and aviation industry. The program also ventures beyond practical, tangible benefits to provide intangible benefits that standard drone pilot license courses lack, an approach that fosters post-traumatic growth. The program’s design reflects the understanding that post-traumatic growth can be facilitated in many ways, including disclosure of traumatic experiences, narrative development, and service.

The VDTP provides veterans the opportunity to train, prepare, and test for an FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilot License and assists veterans with their pursuit of film and aviation industry jobs, including securing jobs on the production team of a groundbreaking veterans-centered TV series, Heroic Episodes.
In the first phase of the program, veterans will receive classroom instruction addressing FAA regulations, operating requirements, and procedures for flying drones. In the second phase of the program, veterans will participate in hands-on flight lessons. In the final phase of the program, veterans will prepare for the FAA 107 certification exam and attend career readiness coaching sessions.
As the saying goes, “The sky’s the limit,” and such a saying could easily serve as the VDTP’s motto. The program effectively positions veterans to rejoin the workforce as commercial drone pilots in the film and aviation industry. The program’s design reflects the understanding that post-traumatic growth can be facilitated in many ways, including disclosure of traumatic experiences, narrative development, and service.
As veterans advance through the program, VDTP empowers them to heal in an empathic environment, to reshape their life narratives in a way that enables growth. It is Lisa’s hope that VDTP graduates will realize positive changes, exploration of new possibilities in their lives, the recognition of their personal strength and a better quality of life.

It takes a cohesive team to make any film. The discipline and special skill set makes each team members role on a film set important. Veterans find comradery and a new mission on a film set.
